In matters of love, we discover the individuals we aspire to become, while in times of war, we uncover our true selves.
FRANCE, 1939
In the serene village of Carriveau, Vianne Mauriac bids farewell to her husband, Antoine, as he departs for the Front. Initially skeptical of a Nazi invasion in France, Vianne's disbelief shatters when hordes of marching soldiers, fleets of trucks and tanks, and planes filling the skies bring the harsh reality. When a German captain requisitions Vianne's home, she and her daughter face the dilemma of living with the enemy or losing everything. Struggling with scarcity of food, funds, and hope, and with danger intensifying, Vianne is compelled to make a series of unimaginable choices to ensure her family's survival.
Vianne's younger sister, Isabelle, an audacious eighteen-year-old in pursuit of purpose with the fervor of youth, enters the scene. As thousands of Parisians march into the uncertainties of war, Isabelle encounters Gaëtan, a partisan who believes in resisting the Nazis from within France. They fall deeply in love, the kind that only the young experience—wholeheartedly. However, when Gaëtan betrays her, Isabelle shifts allegiance to the Resistance without hesitation, repeatedly risking her life to save others.
